U.S. Cellular in Creston is currently in a blackout period until July 25, while the company transitions to a new interface. The upgrade allows U.S. Cellular to create better share plans, provide new billing options and support iPhone technology in the future.
“It’s a billing update that will help us offer better products and services,” said Matt Swanson, a service technician in Creston.
Swanson said the blackout will have no effect on cell phone service and customers are able to make phone calls and text without interruption.
However, Creston customers are not able to make bill payments, bring phones in for repair, make insurance claims or sign up for a new plan in the store or on the Internet.
The only thing service technicians can do during the upgrade is forward a number to another phone.
“Basically, we are pretty much in lockdown right now,” Swanson said.
All billing will be postponed until the interface upgrade is complete. Any bills that are due in the next four days will not be charged a late fee.
U.S. Cellular stores will be open normal hours and technicians will be available to answer questions.
The upgrade is taking place across the Midwest at U.S. Cellular stores that do not already have the new interface.
Customer services return to normal Thursday morning.
