Somers fourth in Junior PGA event here

Kainen Somers, 2013 Creston High School graduate who plans to golf at Simpson College, tied for fourth in the boys 16-18 age division at the PGA Iowa Eagle Junior Tournament held Friday at Crestmoor Golf Club.

Somers shot an 8-over par 80 to tie Chris Shroyer of Guthrie Center for fourth in the division. The winner was Jordan Eng of Panora with an even-par 72. Runner-up with a 76 was Rob Clifton of Winterset.

Placing eighth in the same division was Maxx Walters of Creston with a 15-over par 87.

Ashton Carter of Creston shot a nine-hole score of 51 for third place in the girls 13 and under division.

A competitor of the Panthers during the high school spring season, Jake Olsen of Atlantic, tied for third in the boys 14-15 division with an 85.

Jennifer Gursoy, junior golf manager for Iowa PGA Section, said a total of 60 junior players participated in Friday’s event in Creston.
