McClain Ardan Haines, 17, of Orient, was cited for failure to maintain control after an accident 12:15 a.m. Thursday on Taylor Street west of Division Street.

According to an Iowa Department of Transportation report, Haines, driving a 2003 Mercury east on Taylor Street, was in the outside lane behind a semitrailer and attempted to go around. When Haines pulled out from behind the semitrailer, he did not see Meggan Elizabeth Williams, 28, of Lamoni who was stopped facing east on Taylor Street in a 2005 Escape, attempting to turn left into an ATM drive-thru at PCSB Bank and struck her vehicle.

Damage estimates are $1,000 to Williams vehicle and $3,000 to Haines vehicle.


Nickolus Eugene Watson, 25, 407 S. Oak St., was cited for failure to maintain control after an accident, 3:33 p.m. Tuesday on REA Road.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, Watson, driving a 1997 Ford west on REA Road at Lark Avenue, over corrected and spun his vehicle after it went off onto the north shoulder then on to the gravel at Lark. Watson’s vehicle came to a rest on the driver’s side in the middle of REA Road.

Damage estimate is $2,000 to Watson’s vehicle.
