Corning Opera House activities planned

Published: Wednesday, July 31, 2013 10:20 a.m. CDT

CORNING — Corning Opera House Cultural Center will be filled with activities during the month of August.

Saturday will be hypnotist Gabriel Holmes; Aug. 16 will be the country duo, Belles and Whistles; and Aug. 31 will be pianists Donovan Johnson, Richard Carr and Joseph Noelliste. Special sale price to see all three events will be $40 and must be purchased by Saturday. After Saturday, prices are listed below.

Gabriel Holmes’s amazing show is one of the hottest, most hilarious and unforgettable hypnotic stage shows in the country. This high-energy performance sponsored by Grundman Insurance starts at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $12 and pre-k-12 students are $5. He has performed more than 1,100 shows in North America, so come see the show or be the show.

Belles & Whistles, a mother-daughter duo, are likened to country music’s famed family duo, The Judd’s. Daughter Kelli, 15, leads with her charming yet mature vocals, while mother Jaymie sings harmony and plays acoustic guitar. For Jaymie, this is not the first time family and music have mixed – she spent many years on the road with her sisters in Mulberry Lane. They are backed by a three-piece band. Their current self-penned single, “Boy Like You,” is currently on the national country airplay charts, receiving airplay in more than 50 markets nationwide. This country show is 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16.  Tickets are $18 for adults and prek–12 students are $10.

At 7 p.m. Aug. 31, three new-age pianists take the stage. Audiences are taking notice of Donovan Johnson as his music touches the young and old, while combining contemporary and Celtic musical styles.

Richard Carr spent 10 years performing in the French Quarters of New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina. He has released 14 albums that draw from his classical and jazz training.

Composer and solo pianist Joseph Noelliste released his debut piano album in February. He has served as piano accompanist for college music departments and church music ministries.

Individual tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $8 for preK–12 students or purchase before Aug. 30 for $12 and $7.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the opera house at 641-418-8037, email corning.oh@gmail.com or pick them up at Adams Community Chamber Office or State Bank of Brooks.
