Iowa State Fair kicks off Aug. 8

The Iowa State Fair kicks off Aug. 8-18, with the theme “Nothing Compares.”

Advanced tickets for the Iowa State Fair are available for a discounted price online at www.iowastatefair.org or at participating Hy-Vee and Fareway stores. Adult tickets are $8 and children ages 6 to 11 are $4, if bought in advance. Children ages 5 and younger are free every day of the fair.

Punch cards are also available for all 11 days of the fair for $88. Each punch is good for one admission and can be used by individuals or families. Punch cards can be ordered online or at the Iowa State Fair ticket office.

Parking is $10 per vehicle in the north lot. There are three free bus ride locations every day of the fair from 8:30 a.m. to midnight.

Free park and ride locations are Seventh and Center Street, N.E. 80th Street and Highway 163, and East 12th Street near the State Capitol bell.

This year the fair is featuring 15 new foods to try including three new food on-a-stick items: deep fried brownies, smoothies and coconut mountain.
