Seven area players earn all-district honors
A total of seven baseball players from Creston and the surrounding area were named to all-district teams announced by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Saturday.
In Class 1A, Murray center fielder Cody Scroggie was named to the Southwest District first team outfield. The Mustang senior was the spark at the top of the lineup for coach Travis Held, hitting .522 with an on-base percentage of .606. He was successful on 56 of 57 stolen base attempts and scored 50 runs. He drove in 23 runs, striking out only five times in 90 at-bats.
Teammate Austin Halls, an infielder and pitcher, was named to the second team at utility. After hitting over .600 as a junior, Halls followed up with a .489 batting average as a senior with 14 doubles, 22 RBI and 33 runs scored. On the mound, he was 4-3 with a 3.39 ERA. He struck out 73 and walked 35 in 51 innings with 36 hits allowed.
