Coaching authorization classes will be offered this fall at Southwestern Community College in Red Oak. Another set of classes will be offered at the SWCC Creston campus next spring.
Cost for all of the courses is $440, or less if some of the courses have already been completed.
Pre-registration and pre-payment are required by Aug. 26. Forms and payment can be sent to Adult and Continuing Education, 1501 W. Townline Street, Creston, IA 50801.
Forms are available at the SWCC Adult and Continuing Education office. To register and pay by phone, call the Red Oak center at 712-623-2541. The 55-hour course schedule is approved by the Iowa Department of Education for Chapter 19 licensure rules to become a coach of interscholastic athletic activities in Iowa.
Anyone making initial application or renewing their current certification after July 1, 2000 needs to complete either the 5-hour Ethics for Coaches class or a 15-hour Theory of Coaching class that includes coaching ethics. Those are offered individually for those needing to renew their certification.

Theory of Coaching (10) — 5-10 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5 and Sept. 12; $80.
Physical Development (10) — 5-10 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 19 and Sept. 26; $80.
Anatomy & Physiology (10) — 5-10 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10; $80.
Care & Prevention (20) — 5-10 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7; $160.
Registration forms for Creston Park and Recreation Department fall youth soccer leagues will be available at school registration sessions.
The Creston High School baseball banquet will be held 6 p.m. Sunday in the high school commons.
Families attending are asked to bring two covered dishes and table service. Gatorade will be provided.
Creston/Orient-Macksburg football coach Brian Morrison will be hosting a junior padded camp for students in grades 4-6 on Aug. 5-7 at the Creston High School practice fields.
The camp will run from 9-10:30 a.m. each day and the cost of the camp is $20, which includes a T-shirt and Gatorade provided for the athletes. Participants are asked to bring workout clothes and cleats.
There will also be a camp for junior high students in grades 7-8 on Aug. 5-7 at the Creston High School practice fields.
The junior high camp will run from 10:30 a.m.-noon. The cost for the junior high camp is also $20, which includes a t-shirt and Gatorade. Athletes are asked to bring workout clothes and cleats.
The high school football camp for students in grades 9-12 will run from 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 5-9 at the Creston High School practice fields.

The Creston/O-M football camps will be put on by the football staff at the middle school and high school level. The camp will focus on fundamentals and installing the offensive and defensive game plan that will be used at each individual level.
Camp registration forms can be picked up at the high school office. Athletes can preregister by taking the form and money to the high school office, or they can register on the first day of camp.
DES MOINES — The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association announced the rosters for the 2013 IHSBCA All-Star Series.
The All-Star series is made up of four teams, Small Schools East, Small Schools West, Large Schools East and Large Schools West. Players are nominated by their coaches and are selected by the head coaches of each team.
The four teams will play a series on Aug. 8-11 at Principal Park in Des Moines and West Des Moines Valley High School.
Jake Daeges of Harlan, Trent Verwers of Martensdale-St. Marys and Colby Baumhover of Carroll Kuemper Catholic are members of the Small School West. Kuemper’s Mark Feilmeier is an assistant coach for the team coached by Will Azinger of Logan-Magnolia.
Denison-Schleswig coach Don Lyons is head coach of the Large Schools West team and that squad includes Robert Lyons of Denison-Schleswig.
