Three area players on Pride of Iowa first team

The Lenox duo of Mason Peterson and Caleb Lange, along with Nodaway Valley’s Trevor Jameson earned first-team baseball honors in the Pride of Iowa Conference.

Peterson and Jameson were both named to the first team as infielders, while Lange earned first-team honors as a utility player.

Peterson, a senior who pitched and played shortstop, hit .407 with four doubles, one triple and 22 runs batted in, with 37 stolen bases in 41 attempts for the Tigers. He also finished with a 5-2 record on the mound, posting a team-best 3.12 earned run average with 40 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings.

Lange, meanwhile, hit .391 with seven doubles, one triple and team highs in home runs (4) and RBI (29). He finished 13-of-16 in stolen base attempts. On the pitching rubber, Lange went 6-6 for the season with a 4.06 ERA, striking out 95 in 72 1/3 innings.

Jameson led Nodaway Valley to the district finals in Class 2A, hitting a team-high .531 with 16 doubles, two triples, one home run and 38 RBI. He was 19-of-19 in stolen base attempts. He also posted a 4-3 record on the mound, with a 2.19 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings.

Second team

Earning second-team honors from the area were Jacob Still, Zane Sickels, Austin Quick and Heath Evans of Mount Ayr, Keegan Longabaugh of Corning, Lenox’s Todd Stoaks and Nodaway Valley’s Ryan Williams.

Still posted an 8-3 record on the mound for Mount Ayr, with a 2.91 earned run average, striking out 75 batters in 67 1/3 innings.

Sickels hit .272 for the season with three doubles, one home run and 19 RBI for the Raiders, manning the catcher position.

Quick, meanwhile, hit .337 with one triple and 15 RBI. Evans batted .346 with eight doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI. Evans also finished with a 4-2 record on the mound with 23 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.

Longabaugh led Corning in batting average (.408), doubles (9), home runs (1), runs batted in (12) and stolen bases (8), while posting a 1-6 record on the mound, striking out a team-high 53 batters in 36 2/3 innings.

Stoaks hit .283 for Lenox with seven doubles, 29 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He also posted a 3-2 record on the mound with 19 strikeouts in 28 innings.

Williams hit .282 for the Wolverines with five doubles, three triples, five RBI and 26 stolen bases in 27 attempts. He also finished 2-1 on the mound with 24 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings.
