Rick Williams Marshalltown

Rick Williams, 54, of Marshalltown died July 31, 2013, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs and Monsignor Larry Beeson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery south of Thayer. Visitation with family present will be 1 to 2 p.m. service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Tingley Mealsite or the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Richard “Rick” Edward Williams, son of Karen Anabel (Rutledge) and Robert Edward Williams, was born Sept. 8, 1958, in Des Moines.

Rick attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., and graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1976.

Rick joined the United States Navy in 1976.

On June 14, 1981, Rick married Dixie Schreck at Union Park in Des Moines.

They settled in the Des Moines area, and Rick worked in the laundry department at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

They later divorced, and Rick moved to Tingley.

In 2000, Rick moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Rick is survived by his mother Karen Williams (fiancé Larry McGuire) of Tingley; daughter Charity Williams of Des Moines; grandson Caleb Williams of Des Moines; sisters, Kersti (husband Mark) Siebert and Jean (husband Brad) Deffner, all of Arizona; aunt Kersti Rutledge of Des Moines; nieces, Stephanie (husband Cesar) Aguilar, Jennifer Freeman and Lauren Deffner, all of Arizona; nephews, Tyler Freeman and Robert Deffner, both of Arizona; and great-nieces, Alexa Aguilar and Cloi Aguilar, both of Arizona.

Rick was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
