Former Trojan wins Tournament of Champions

ATLANTIC — Former standout Atlantic High School golfer Brad Hartkopf excelled on his hometown course in winning the 2013 Tournament of Champions at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club last weekend.

Hartkopf, 24, shot a one-under par 206 for his three-day tournament total. Former Trojan teamate Andrew Martin, representing Nishna Hills Golf Course, finished second with a four-over par 211.

Hartkopf was a three-time state qualifier for Atlantic High School, and placed fourth individually in Class 3A his senior year. He shot rounds of 70-67-69 on the par-69 course.

Afton native Ron Peterson of Des Moines, qualified as a past champion, placed third with a six-over par 213 on rounds of 70-73-70.

With Crestmoor Golf Club champion Ryan Palser unable to accept the invitation, Rick Carter represented the club and tied for 27th with a 14-over score of 221. He had rounds of 73-72-76.

Jerry Hoff of Oakland, who qualified as super senior champ at Crestmoor, shot 60-over 267 to place 80th with rounds of 82-87-98.
