The Creston/Orient-Macksburg football team’s annual kickoff cookout fundraiser will be held Aug. 24 at Crestmoor Golf Club.
Social hour for the event begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the raffle and auction to follow dinner.
Cost for tickets to the event is $10 and tickets can be purchased at Carter Agency, Family Shoe Store, Branch Bank First National Bank, Precision Optical Group and from head coach Brian Morrison.
“It will be social hour, it will be dinner, and then I’ll talk about the program — junior padded through varsity,” Morrison said. “And then we’ll have the raffle and the auction after that.”
Morrison said the fundraiser is for more than just parents with children in the football program.
“We have things that are auctioned off from, it’s unreal. It’s not football,” he said. “There’s basketball tickets, there’s tickets for Iowa and Iowa State. There’s items from all over the community.
“You don’t have to have kids in the program, just come out and talk to the assistant coaches and myself and have a good time,” Morrison continued. “I think the cost of the meal and the social is a great deal. You don’t have to buy anything. Just come out and hang out and promote the football team.”
Tom Hartsock said some of the items that will be auctioned off include football tickets and tickets to the Iowa Speedway, among many other “really nice raffle items and really good auction items.”
According to Morrison, proceeds from the event help pay for several expenses throughout the season.
“We always have to purchase equipment,” Morrison said. “The second thing is, it’s meals for every away game. That includes JV on Monday nights and that includes freshmen through seniors on Friday nights. On top of that, it’s Thursday meals are catered, so it pays for that.”
Proceeds also go toward paying off the jerseys the players wear.
“We’re in our last year to pay that off,” Morrison said. “We’re going to pay that off with that money, too. That’s the biggest deal. Once they’re paid off, they recycle themselves, because the seniors can buy them, which they always do, and we can buy new ones so that they stay quality, as far as what they look like.”
Usually, the fundraiser is held after the first game of the season, but this year it is being held prior to the first game, which is Aug. 30 at Chariton.
