Major accident in Thayer

Lori Friday, 31, of Murray was taken by air ambulance late Wednesday afternoon to Mercy Medical Center following a two-vehicle accident on 210th Street and Willow Avenue near Thayer. Friday was treated and released today. (Thursday) For a complete report on the accident, see the records section on our website for the full police and accident report.

Today’s rainfall total

As of 10 a.m. today, National Weather Service reports Creston receiving .60 INCHES of rain between the hours of 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. today. The rain is welcomed by most, especially by farmers, as Union County was identified as “abnormally dry” in the latest drought conditions report.

WHO13’s first RVTV stop this year will be in Creston Sept. 9. For those who don’t know, the RVTV tour takes place in celebration of the week of the CyHawk rivalry football game between Iowa and Iowa State. The Soundoff Crew will do television broadcasts in Creston at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. Sept. 9. The broadcasts will take place at the restored Creston Depot.

Ellen Gerharz — Creston chamber of commerce executive director — is gearing up this week for the RVTV stop and has a few requests for Crestonians.

First, she’d like all employees the day of the event to wear clothing either supporting the Hawkeyes or Cyclones. Also, the Chamber is asking for 14 Iowa and 14 Iowa State flags (hopefully 3 feet by 5 feet) to display on the poles along Adams Street.

This will be a family friendly tailgating event. The Chamber will have a schedule of events posted in the September Chamber newsletter. The CNA will also have upcoming stories on the event. If you have a flag the Chamber can barrow, contact them at (641) 782-7021.
