Emmett Eagan Creston
Emmett Eagan, 87, of Creston died Aug. 18, 2013, at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 of Creston V.F.W. Open visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with family present 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and a 7:30 p.m. Rosary at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. Emmett Joseph Eagan, son of Frances Marie (Mitchell) and Charles Peter Eagan, was born March 20, 1926, in Creston.
Emmett was educated at Grant Country School No. 4 and graduated from Shannon City High in 1943.
After graduation, Emmett went to work on the railroad as an engineer and occasionally as a hired farm hand. Emmett served as a sergeant first class in United States Army from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart.
On Sept. 3, 1955, Emmett married Donna Louisa Riegel in Hamburg.
Emmett retired from the railroad in 1988.
Emmett was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, National Association of Retired Veterans Railway Employees (N.A.R.V.R.E.), American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans Association.
Emmett is survived by his wife Donna Eagan of Creston; daughters, Mary Eagan (husband Rick) McCubbin of West Des Moines, Patricia Norman of West Des Moines and Elizabeth Eagan (husband Rabi) Satter of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Todd (wife Joyce) McCubbin, Nathan McCubbin, Jeramia (wife Tonya) Norman, Joe Norman, Cynthia Estrella, Petty Officer 3rd Class J. Emmett (wife Tiwa) Franks and Joseph Franks; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Patrick and William Eagan; brother Harold; sister Eileen Siddens and son-in-law Donald Norman.
