Thank you for making driving on Townline safer

Creston

I want to personally thank the city of Creston for making West Townline a safer road to travel and live on.

Since we moved here 10 years ago, Townline has been the autobahn and an uncontrolled mess. We have been nearly T-boned by vehicles that were trying to pass on the outside and rear-ended as we were pulling into our driveway. I have had to jump out of the way while vehicles rode the outside curb as I mowed my yard. We have seen our fair share of crashes and drag races in 10 years. This road is also used by semi-trailers, farm equipment, trucks pulling anhydrous ammonia, sprayers, school buses. It wasn’t just a matter of time before someone was severely injured on Townline, but will be killed on Townline! Since the city has painted the lines, traffic has been greatly effected. There is finally some organization to the traffic on this road.

With school opening up this week, it is another reminder to drive carefully on Townline and around the schools. There is no right turning lane to the high school as you travel west. (In fact, there is a sign that is posted in front of the vet clinic that states that there is legal parking there until 8 a.m.!) There is a new student cross-walk in front of the high school. There is no passing lane, traveling east on Townline. Students have almost been struck by impatient drivers that thought they could pass on the outside even though the crossing guard had the stop sign up in the intersection.

The road around the high school is in bad shape and there is a lot of new construction in that area. The view around the corner is obstructed and there are several buses using that narrow road. (It is actually a service road as the sign states at the entrance.)

So, if we give ourselves plenty of time to get our kids to school, utilize the school supplied bus stops, drive safer around the schools, and use the drop-off and pick-up road from Green Valley Road/N. Lincoln, our kids will have a safe and successful school year!
