Academic honors

Bill Huntington, Southwestern head track and field coach, has received word 10 of his 2012-13 track and field athletes have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI academic teams. Honorees are as follows:

NJCAA Region XI Academic 1st Team All-Region — Kristin Klocksiem, freshman from Glidden; Kaley Folkerts, sophomore from Bedford; Mariah Kruse, sophomore from Afton; Kalli McCann, sophomore from Osceola; and Zach Ruth, freshman from Osceola.

Region XI Academic 2nd Team All-Region — Joe Bierl, freshman from Davenport; Regina Hafner, sophomore from Panora; Adam Pool, sophomore from Orient; Dave Prchal, sophomore from Omaha, NE; and Molly Schimp, freshman from Hampton.

Youth soccer

Registration for Creston Park and Recreation youth soccer ends Friday.

Games for grades kindergarten-8 will begin Sept. 7 at the Bill Sears Complex East and West fields. Cost is $20 for one child, $32 for two children, $40 for three children and $45 for four or more children from the same family. Fee includes a league T-shirt.

Coaches will contact players assigned to their team the week of Aug. 26.

Forms and entry fees can be mailed to the Creston Park and Recreation Department, 116 W. Adams Street, P.O. Box 449, Creston, IA 50801, or turned in to the office in the restored Creston Depot.
