Katherine Werner Osceola

Katherine Werner, 73, of Osceola, formerly of Lamoni, died Aug. 19, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. The Rev. Karen Norton, River Of Life Assembly Of God in Creston, will officiate. Interment will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Katherine Fay Werner, daughter of Daisy Bernice (Miller) and Harold James Bennett, was born July 9, 1940, in Dexter.

Katherine graduated from Arispe High School in 1958.

On Aug. 17, 1958, Katherine married Fred Werner at Arispe Methodist Church.

Katherine lived near Tingley for 15 years.

In 1973, Katherine and Fred moved to a farm west of Lamoni and lived there for 40 years. Last year, they moved to the Osceola area.

Katherine was a homemaker and farm wife, working beside her husband.

Katherine was a 4-H Leader for many years and served on the 4-H County Council for eight years. Katherine also served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mount Ayr and life member of Arispe Methodist Church.

Katherine is survived by her husband Fred Werner of Osceola; daughter Colleen (Bruce) Peterson of Earlham; son Barry Werner of Prescott; grandchildren, Annette (Richard) Kaster of Macksburg, Jerry (Linda) Werner of Creston and Katherine Peterson of Earlham; sister Helen Case (significant other Wayne Gridley) of Kent; sister-in-law Berva Bennett of Salem, Ore.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert Bennett; sister Romona Shrader; brother-in-law Dean Shrader; and great-grandson Easton Werner.
