Shirley Hanson Macksburg

Shirley Hanson, 66, of Macksburg died Aug. 25, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. The Rev. Ben McIntire will officiate. Interment will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church or Greater Regional Hospice Home. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Shirley Kay Hanson, daughter of Charles and Helen Osborn, was born Dec. 22, 1946, in San Francisco, Calif. She moved to the Pomeroy area in 1952.

Shirley graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1965. She completed the cosmetology program at the American Academy of Beauty in Des Moines.

On April 28, 1968, Shirley married Dennis William Hanson at the Methodist Church in Pomeroy.

Shirley lived and worked in Pomeroy as a homemaker and helped operate the Hanson Electric store.

In January 1977, Shirley moved to a farm southwest of Macksburg, and worked as a farmwife and assisted at the Hanson Electric store in Macksburg.

Shirley attended Salem Lutheran Church and also worked there as the secretary.

Shirley also worked in the service department at the Sernett department store, Moore Music as a secretary, ISU Extension as a receptionist and Lakeside Casino in the payroll department.

Shirley was in a square dance club for 10 years. She also sang in the Creston Chorus, and played saxophone in the Creston Community Band.

Shirley is survived by her husband Dennis Hanson of Macksburg; sons, Shayne (wife Amanda) Hanson of Las Vegas, Nev., and David Hanson of Creston; daughter Denise Hanson of Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law Sandra Lewis of Leonard, Texas; and grandchildren, Zachary, Brooklyn, Kyler, Jameson, Jordan, Wyatt and Addison Hanson.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Darold Lewis.
