Lola Strauser Creston

Lola Strauser, 87, of Creston died Aug. 28, 2013, at Afton Care Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ben McIntire will officiate. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church or Afton Care Center activity fund. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Lola Madeline (Cass) Strauser, daughter of Ora Josephine (Dickey) and John Miles Cass, was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Adair County.

Lola graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1943 and Drake University in 1971 with a degree in education.

On June 13, 1942, Lola married Harold Alfred Strauser in Grant City, Mo.

Lola taught school in Adair, Taylor and Union counties for 38 years.

Harold and Lola lived on a farm for 20 years in Adair County near the Zion and Spaulding communities, before moving to Creston in 1962, where Lola resided until her death.

Lola belonged to Salem Lutheran Church, Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority, Lady Elks No. 605 and Eagles Auxiliary No. 1398.

Lola is survived by her brother Leland Cass of Afton; sister-in-law Betty Strauser of Midland, Texas; brother-in-law Tony Fienhage of Creston; nephews, Tony (wife Peggy) Cass of Creston, David (wife Alyssa) Cass of Omaha, Neb., and Bige (wife Diane) Fienhage of Creston; nieces, Patty (husband Terry) Weinkoetz of Afton, Janet (husband Doug) Christensen of Stuart, Sharon (husband Ron) Mayberry of Colorado City, Texas, and Beverly (husband Doug) Murdock of Lubbock, Texas; niece-in-law Stacy Cass of Orient; 20 greats; several cousins and many friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Twylah Fienhage; parents-in-law, Fred and Eulah Strauser; brothers-in-law, Harlan Strauser, Carl Strauser and Gus Lorenze; sisters-in-law, Doris Strauser, Cleo Lorenze and Marcella Strauser; nephew Shane Cass and niece Beverly Murdock.
