Swim victory

WAUKEE — Creston/O-M sophomore Camryn Somers, competing for the second year as a state qualifier for the Waukee High School swim team, had a successful season opener Tuesday.

Waukee trounced Indianola, 146-37. Somers won the 200 meter individual medley in 2:22.49; captured the 100 butterfly in 1:06.71; and swam the third leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay in a total time of 1:46.96.

SWCC falls

BOONE — No. 11-ranked DMACC defeated the Southwestern volleyball team Wednesday, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19.

“We started out well and had some great moments,” said coach Melissa Blessington, “but we struggled hitting the ball in the last two games.”

SWCC, 0-1 in the conference and 3-2 overall, plays in the Graceland Tournament Saturday. DMACC improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Attacks (kills) — Allyson Kocour 13, Alex Duffy 8.

Setting (assists) — Cassidy Yong 31.

Digs — Molly Schimp 19, Ashley Strong 13, Serena Yong 10.

Heat precautions

IOWA CITY — Fans planning on attending Saturday’s University of Iowa football home opener against Northern Illinois in Kinnick Stadium are encouraged to take extra precautions due to excessive heat that is forecasted in eastern Iowa.

The following adjustments and precautions have been made for the safety of fans attending Saturday’s game.

• Cooling stations will be available at all corners of the stadium, equipped with tents for shade, misting stations and cold towels.

• Fans may bring in more than one sealed bottle of water.

• Fans can purchase bottled water for a reduced price of $2 inside the stadium.

• Fans can bring in an empty reusable water bottle and refill at drinking fountains.

• Additional paramedics will be on-site and on-call.

• Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Recreation Building, and the Field House all open at 8 a.m.
