Drought conditions

After a dry and hot summer week, the drought condition for the entire state of Iowa has been upgraded. Union County is listed in a "moderate drought" along with 60 percent of the state. Adair County and most of west central Iowa was upgraded to "severe drought" conditions.

The next chance for rain in the area is late Saturday and early Sunday. The forecast does offer some relief from the heat next week with temperatures expected to be in the low- to mid-80s.

Cooling stations at Iowa game

With the heat wave pushing into the weekend, University of Iowa officials are taking extra precautions so Hawkeye fans attending the first Iowa football game of the season stay cool.

Iowa plays Northern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Temperatures are expected in the 90s, with a heat index again reaching about 100 degrees.

That in mind, UI officials are reducing the price of water sold at the concession stands. Water will be $2. As well, fans can bring an unlimited amount of unopened water bottles. Finally, UI will keep more paramedics on staff and install cooling stations with misting water in all four corners of Kinnick Stadium.
