GLENWOOD — The Southwest Valley girls cross country team opened the post-Tiffany Shepherd era with a seventh-place finish at the Glenwood Coed Meet here Saturday.

Steph Shuler led the Timberwolves with a 26th place finish in 18:16.71 over the 4K course.

On the boys side, the Timberwolves were led by Lane Peterson’s 28th-place finish in 20:28.26 for the 5K course.

Southwest Valley did not have enough runners in the boys varsity race to compile a team score.

“Both teams ran very well for the first meet of the season,” head coach Sandy Winter said. “This is going to be a dynamic group to work with. There was tough competition and our runners gave it all they had. Several had set personal goals and surpassed them! Now we have a week to train and the weather is more cooperative, so we should see some improvement at the Clarinda meet.”
