LIBERTY CENTER — After dropping the first game to Southeast Warren here on Tuesday, the Mount Ayr Raiderettes battled back for a 16-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 over the Warhawks.

“We struggled getting started, but we got the job done to get our first W,” head coach Tori Braby said. “We did some really good things at times, but we weren’t able to shake them off and run with the lead.”

Paige Daughton had a strong all-around match for the Raiderettes, serving 17-of-17 with one ace, recording 10 digs and eight kills.

Kelcie Shields also had a big match for Mount Ayr, with 11 kills and six bolcks. Macy Larsen finished with five assists, three aces and 11 digs. Brook Rychnovsky led the team with 15 digs.

Shelbie Greene recorded a team-high 13 assists. Allie Shields finished with four kills and one ace, while Tessa Shields served three aces.

Mount Ayr travels to Southwest Valley on Tuesday.

Murray 3,

Mormon Trail 0

MURRAY — The Murray Mustangs opened up their season with a runaway 25-10, 25-20, 25-7 win here over Mormon Trail on Thursday.

Hannah Barber led the Mustangs with 16 kills, while also serving 24-of-27 with 10 aces. She was 11-for-12 on serve receive.

“Hannah did a tremendous job for the first game tonight,” head coach Jerry Shields said. “We need to do a better job of serving. We let up too much in game two.”

Megan Oswald added nine kills, while Cheyanne Ashby recorded four and Jade Lecy finished with five.

Kate Patton finished with 27 assists and also served 12-of-14 with two aces.

The Mustangs return to action Tuesday at Lamoni.

MSM 3, Lenox 0

LENOX — The Lenox Tigers suffered a 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 sweep to Martensdale-St. Marys here on Thursday.

Aurora Arevalo led the Tigers with five kills, seven digs and six total blocks. Katie Dukes added three kills with four digs and three total blocks. Morgan Miller finished with six assists, two digs and two block assists. Shantelle Brown assisted on two blocks and had one solo block.
