Matthew Allen Sponsler, 31, of Allerton was cited for failure to have a valid driver’s license and failure to have insurance after an accident 5:15 p.m. Saturday at 140th Street and Cherry Street Road.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Sponsler, driving a 1975 Chevrolet south on Cherry Street Road, ran out of gas and attempted to exit to the left. Rose Mary Wignall, 53, 2811 330th St., driving a 2000 Dodge, was passing Sponsler. To avoid an accident, Wignall swerved and went into the ditch on the west side of Cherry Street Road. The vehicles did not come into contact with each other.

Damage estimate is $2,000 to Wignall’s vehicle.

Toni Marie Van Scoy, 16, 210 S. Birch St., was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway after an accident 7:52 a.m. Monday at West Townline and North Spruce streets.

According to a Creston Police report, Van Scoy, driving a 2000 Pontiac south on North Spruce, stopped at a stop sign. She said there was a large truck on her right that had started to move forward to turn right. Van Scoy proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a 2001 Ford driven east on Townline by Brett Mikel Cheers, 16, of Orient. The front end of Cheers’ vehicle collided with the passenger side of Van Scoy’s vehicle. Both vehicles had deployed air bags. Both vehicles were considered a total loss, rendered inoperable and had to be towed.

Damage estimates are $3,500 to Van Scoy’s vehicle and $4,000 to Cheers’ vehicle.
