Ruth Cole Afton

Ruth Cole, 97, of Afton died Aug. 26, 2013, at Afton Care Center.

Private family graveside memorial services will be Saturday, Sept. 14, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Pat Cole will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Afton United Methodist Church and Afton Care Center. Ruth Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Mamie Emily (Everist) and William Harris Henry, was born Sept. 18, 1915, in rural Shannon City.

Ruth went to school in Shannon City until the seventh grade and later graduated from Creston High School in 1934.

On Sept. 19, 1949, Ruth married John Luther Cole in Osceola.

They settled in Afton, where Ruth was a homemaker and bookkeeper for John L. Cole Appliance and Heating. She also worked for Agricultural AAA for many years.

Ruth was a member of Afton United Methodist Church and Afton Care Center Auxilary.

Ruth is survived by her son Patrick (wife Anne) Cole of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga.; daughter Phyllis (husband Steve) Murray of Norwalk; sister Gertrude Sieck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandsons, Daniel (wife Lara) Murray, Brian Murray and John (wife Rochelle) Cole.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1976; sisters, Wilda Denton and Hazel McDonald; brothers, the Rev. Charles Henry, Harris Henry and Bill Henry; and grandson Matthew Cole.
