CORNING — Each fall after the crops were all harvested, the Icarians would hold a celebration with friends and neighbors. A feast would be served in the communal dining hall to everyone who came to help with the final day of corn picking.
The French Icarian Colony Foundation will renew that tradition by holding the third annual fall celebration, Fête du Maїs, in the restored 1878 refectory Oct. 4 at the French Icarian Village east of Corning.
The celebration includes a four-course French supper featuring boeuf bourguignon. The dessert, rhubarbe croustillante, will be made with fruit grown in the Icarian gardens.
Seating and starters begin at 6:30 p.m. Reservations may be made until Sept. 27 by calling (641) 322-4717 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets are $30. There is limited seating.
