Geraldine Emerson Corning

Geraldine Emerson, 92, of Corning died Sept. 11, 2013, at Corning and Nursing Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning. The Rev. Ken Rummer and the Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. Interment will be in Clearfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family present 4 to 6 p.m. at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. Memorials may be directed to the family in Geraldine’s name to be determined. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralshomes.com.

Geraldine Jenn Emerson, daughter of Margaret Irene (Madole) and Bard Weaver Goodale, was born June 9, 1921, in Diagonal.

Geraldine attended Diagonal High School and graduated in 1939.

On Nov. 21, 1941, Geraldine married Jacob Ross “Hap” Emerson.

Geraldine worked for Lauvstad Drug Store for a few years prior to her 20 year employment at Turners Department Store, where she was a clerk in the dry goods department. Geraldine retired from Turners in 1984.

Later, Geraldine worked part time at Ken’s Drive-In. She also volunteered for the ISU Extension office, where she contributed to the “Time Out” newsletter.

Geraldine was a longtime member of Business and Professional Woman and was named “Woman of the Year” in 1980. Geraldine was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corning.

Geraldine is survived by her sons, Jerry Emerson (special friend Diana Miller) of West Des Moines and Garry (Haruedee) Emerson of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Emerson, Evelyn (Rob) Morgan, Alex (Maggie) Emerson, David Emerson and Michael Emerson; great-grandchildren, Myla, Syvannah and Alona Emerson; former daughter-in-law Amphora Emerson of Omaha, Neb.; friends, Dick and Debbie Blazek of Corning; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jan. 9, 2002; brothers, George and Charles Goodale; sisters, Violet Nevill, Vera Morey, Margaret LePera; and an infant granddaughter.
