Mount Ayr 15, Clarinda 3

CLARINDA — Mount Ayr spent all week preparing for Clarinda’s single wing offense, and then had to adjust on the fly when the Cardinals came out running the wishbone.

But, co-head coach Delwyn Showalter said he felt his defense did a good job of adjusting, as the Raiders held Clarinda to just 110 rushing yards and 125 total yards of offense in a 15-3 win.

Mount Ayr received a scare when starting quarterback Jacob Sobotka left the game with an ankle injury, but Showalter said he doesn’t believe the injury is too serious. Sobotka had accumulated 98 rushing yards and was 9-of-17 passing for 117 yards before the injury.

Sophomore Kyle Dolecheck had a big game for the Raiders, scoring on a 16-yard run and catching two passes for 61 yards. Dolecheck also ran down a Clarinda running back from behind, preventing a touchdown. Dolecheck intercepted a pass in the game, as well.

The Raiders, now 3-0 for the season, open district play at home Friday against Colfax-Mingo.
