A male employee at Ferrara Candy Company in Creston was seriously injured Monday morning when he got tangled in material handling equipment. Creston Fire Department extricated the victim.

He was then immediately flown by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital. Neither his name nor condition report are being released at this time.

"It was a time-critical injury that needed immediate care at a level 1 trauma center," said Creston Assistant Fire Chief Mick Landers. "It was a challenging rescue for us because he was so tangled in the machine. We couldn't lift the machine off him. We couldn't cut him out. We had to carefully untangle him without causing further injuries to the patient."

Creston News Advertiser will update this story if and when details become available.
