GREENFIELD — Oct. 6-12 is National 4-H Week, and Adair County 4-H is celebrating 4-H youths who have made an impact on the community, and are stepping up to the challenges of a complex and changing world.

Iowa 4-H empowers youths to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. Iowa 4-H provides opportunities for youths to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, form attitudes and practice behavior that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.

Recent findings from Tufts University’s 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development indicate that young people in 4-H are nearly four times more likely to contribute to their communities than youths not participating in 4-H. Notably, the Tufts research discovered the structured learning, encouragement and adult mentoring that 4-H’ers receive play a vital role in helping them actively contribute to their communities.

4-H, the largest youth development organization in the world, is a community of seven million young people across the globe learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. In the U.S., 4-H programs are implemented by the 109 land grant universities and cooperative extension system through their 3,100 local extension offices across the country.

Adair County 4-H currently has 10 community 4-H clubs. Membership in these clubs and programs is available to all eligible individuals regardless of age, race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Following is a list of Adair County 4-H clubs: Adair County Hot Shots, Adair County Wing Walkers, Harrison Hummers, Jefferson Pioneers, NV Champions, Orient Bulldogs, Richland Royals, Summerset Citizens, Summit Super Stars and Washington Stars.
