Middle school cross country
The Creston middle school cross country teams got off to a solid start in their first meet of the season here on Sept. 24 after having two previous meets cancelled because of weather.
Seventh-grader Jesse Vicker paced the Creston girls with a seventh-place finish in 15:34, as Rachel Wignall finished 15th in 16:04. Danielle Castillo finished 19th in 16:19 and Emma Berning placed 25th with a time of 17:14 for the 2-mile course.
On the boys side, eighth-grader Cade Vicker finished eighth to lead Creston. He clocked a time of 13:58 for 2-miles.
Trey Gift finished 13th in 14:13, while Dylan Linch placed 14th in 14:22 and Matthew Rouh ran 15:01 for 18th.

ORIENT — The Creston middle school cross country teams showed improvement in just their second meet of the season here Monday.
The seventh grade class alone brought home three top-five medals for the Panthers. Rachel Wignall paced the Creston girls with a third-place finish in 15:28, as Jesse Vicker finished fourth in 15:40. Matthew Rouh finished fifth in the boys race with a time of 13:35.
Cade Vicker paced the Panther boys with a fourth-place finish in 13:31.
“I was extremely happy with our seventh grade runners tonight in their second career meet,” head coach Clay Arnold said. “Matthew Rouh had a tremendous race from wire to wire, hanging within range of Cade Vicker for the entire race. He had a very good Creston meet last week, but tonight marked an even bigger amount of improvement.”
Emma Berning recorded a sixth-place finish for the Creston girls in 16:08, and Alyssa Trembly also finished in the top 10 at 17:21 for 10th place. For the boys, Dylan Linch finished eighth in 14:50.
“Emma Berning was the breakout performer of the night with a sixth-place finish,” Arnold said. “Emma has literally been making improvements every single day of practice and all the work has paid off to make her the number three on the team.”
