Ruth Wynn Creston

Ruth Wynn, 85, of Creston died Oct. 3, 2013, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. The Rev. Diana Clark and the Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with family present 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Prescott Church, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or Creston meal site. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Ruth E. Wynn, daughter of Tena Fredricka (Grapenthin) and Ben William Lyles, was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Peterson.

Ruth graduated from Prescott High School in 1947.

On Feb. 26, 1948, Ruth married Verl M. Wynn in Prescott.

They farmed north of Prescott from 1948 to 1964.

In 1964, Ruth and Verl bought and operated the Williamson General Store. She served as store bookkeeper until 1990, when they moved to Creston.

Ruth worked as a receptionist for Coen-Beaty Funeral Home from 1991 until 2001.

Together, Verl and Ruth mowed yards from 1990 to 2003.

Ruth volunteered at Greater Regional Medical Center and was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Order of the Eastern Star.

Ruth is survived by her husband Verl Wynn of Creston; sons, Larry (wife Barb) Wynn of Creston and Terry (wife Angie) Wynn of Omaha, Neb.; daughters, Beverly (husband Al) Browning of Seminole, Okla., Kathy (husband Gary) Hays of Afton and Linda (husband Craig “Hutch”) Hutchings of Creston; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Perry of Creston and Donna Mae (husband Ron) Hunter of Corning; brothers, Kenneth (wife Evelyn) Lyles of Chattaroy, Wash., and Charles (wife Connie) Lyles of Corning; many nieces, nephews and other family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and father- and mother-in-law, Guy and Grace Wynn.
