Sylvia Young Fontanelle

Sylvia Young, 79, of Fontanelle, formerly of Lenox, died Oct. 3, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Presbyterian Church in Lenox. The Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview North Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation with family present will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston, is in charge of arrangements. Sylvia Maxine Young, daughter of Esther Bertha (Butman) and Oran Hillary Hoyt, was born March 12, 1934.

Sylvia was educated in Massena area schools.

On Jan. 29, 1955, Sylvia married Richard Verl Young in Creston.

They lived much of their life in the Lenox area.

Sylvia was a homemaker. She also worked at the Iowana Hotel in Creston and Toads Café in Greenfield.

Richard died in January of 2007.

Sylvia was a member of Motor Friends Church near Milo.

Sylvia is survived by her son Larry (wife Peggy) Young of Sapulpa, Okla., Raymond Young of Greenfield, Roger (wife Jessi) Young of Fontanelle and Kelly (wife Tammy) Young of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Hoyt of Afton, Robert (wife Sharon) Hoyt of Shenandoah and Keith Hawkins of Alma, Ill.; and sisters, Betty Foster of Savannah, Mo., Helen Purscell of Shannon City and Irene (husband Jack) Small of Boone.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents.
