Marion Gildsig Creston

Marion Gildsig, 69, of rural Creston died Oct. 4, 2013, at his home.

Celebration of life services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St. The Rev. Tom Woodin will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. Visitation with family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family and will be given back to the community at a future time. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Marion Duane Gildsig, son of Laura Alice (Woods) and Nels Andrew Gildsig, was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Creston.

Marion lived his entire life in Creston.

Marion graduated from Creston High School in 1961.

On April 25, 1964, Marion married Jeanette Eileen Spriggs in Creston.

Marion was a fireman for 33 years. He began working with the Creston Volunteer Fire Department. A few years later, he became a full-time paid member of the Creston Fire Department, and he was also a first responder.

Marion farmed for more than 50 years. He farmed on North Cherry Street Road and also the Danielson farm.

In addition, Marion worked at Pearson Family Funeral Service since 2003, Barkers Implement and as a jailor at Creston Law Enforcement Center.

Marion was past president of Crestmoor Golf Club and was currently serving on the board of the golf club. He was a member of Elks Lodge.

Marion is survived by his wife Jeanette Gildsig of Creston; daughters, Gale (Cris) Goodale of Adel and Kerri (Sean) Smith of Waukee; grandchildren, Ryan and Staci Goodale and Alex, Jack and Ben Smith; mother-in-law Alice Spriggs of Creston, brother-in-law John Spriggs of Creston and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, including Sandra (Dick) Danhert of Minneapolis, Minn., and Eva (Harris) Perkins of Creston.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Verne Spriggs, sister Darlene Page, daughter Monica Gildsig and brother-in-law Mike Spriggs.
