Marvin ‘Wigg’ Boyer Clearfield

Marvin “Wigg” Boyer, 95, of Clearfield died Oct. 6, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Clearfield Christian Church. The Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. Burial will be in Conway Cemetery with military rites by Woodside Post No. 97. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to Clearfield Christian Church. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 200 N. Marvin “Wigg” Boyer, son of Grace May (Dunn) and James Garfield Boyer, was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Sharpsburg.

Wigg grew up in Sharpsburg and graduated from Sharpsburg High School.

On Oct. 1, 1940, Wigg married Betty C. Beemer in Bedford.

Wigg served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After Wigg’s discharge, they lived in Lenox and moved to Clearfield in 1950 for Wigg’s employment. Wigg retired as manager of M.F.A. in Clearfield after 30 years.

Wigg was active at Clearfield Christian Church, where he served as an elder. Wigg was a former mayor of Clearfield and member of Woodside Post No. 97 American Legion in Clearfield.

Wigg is survived by his daughter Sherry Bolinger of Clearfield; son Doug (Deb) Boyer of Clearfield; foster sons, Kenny and Joey Johnson; grandchildren, Kathy Kirby, Karole (Barry) Weeks, Clete Boyer, Brent Boyer, Ty (Rachael) Boyer, Corina (Pat) George and Drew (Jenn) Boyer; great-grandchildren, Nick, Katie, Trevor, Cooper, Gracie, Taryn, Presley and Isaac; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joyce (Ralph) Ridnour of Omaha, Neb., Dean (Betty) Beemer of Cody, Wyo., Mary Lu Schofield of Kent, Alice Miller of Grant City, Mo., Jerry (Jean) Beemer of Lenox, Sally (Gary) Hensley of Corning and Tim (Linda) Beemer of Bedford; and sisters-in-law, Zoe Erickson of Conway and Beverly Beemer of Basin, Wyo.

Wigg was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty Boyer Dec. 7, 2011; daughter at birth Mary Ann; parents-in-law, Sim and Mary Beemer; siblings, Velva Boyer, Lela (Charles) Wiand, June (Charles) Rupert, Teddy (Freda and Audrey) Boyer and Willard (Claudine) Boyer; brothers-in-law, Bryce, Dale and Virgil Beemer; sister-in-law Beth Beemer; son-in-law Kenny Bolinger; grandson-in-law Phillip Kirby; and great-grandchildren, Kasey and Kerry Kirby.
