Maxine Mohr Creston
Maxine Mohr, 90, of Creston died Oct. 4, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Avon, Ohio.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. The Rev. Gideon Gallo and the Rev. Tom Woodin will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Maxine Louise Mohr, daughter of Ruth (Bullock) and Charlie Fesler, was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Decatur County.
Maxine attended Arispe schools.
In 1941, Maxine married Hollis Mohr in Grant City, Mo.
Maxine held positions as cook and manager of the school lunch programs in Cromwell and at Creston junior high and Franklin Elementary.
Hollis died in December 2004.
Maxine was a member of Arispe Methodist Church and Creston First United Methodist Church and was past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service (WSCS) for the southwest district of Iowa.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Ellen Mohr of Norman, Okla., Barbara Archibold of Thorton, Colo., Debra (Wilberto) Torres of Avon, Ohio, and Julie (Gary) Honeick of Ames; son Stanley (Jean) Mohr of Creston, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister Wanda Garrett of Anchorage, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Jessie Mohr of Gowrie and Margaret “Peggy” Skarda of Mount Ayr; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, son William Charles and his wife Beverly, daughter Betty Jo Troyer and sister Hazel Sweet.
