READS volunteers needed

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 12:21 p.m. CDT

READS is a collaboration of Dollars for Scholars, Creston Elementary and St. Malachy School and pairs adult volunteers with first grade students to read for 30 minutes each week.

The goal of the program is to improve the students’ reading skills and help them develop a caring relationship with their reading buddy.

The program is currently in need of about 25 volunteers.

Volunteers must pass a background check and will be asked to complete training. Training for new volunteers will be Oct. 15 at noon or 5:30 p.m. at Creston Elementary, room 106. The training lasts 45-50 minutes.

READS starts the week of Nov. 4.

To volunteer, contact Chris Mansour at 782-4382.
