Dan Ford Creston

Charles Daniel Ford, 50, of Creston died Oct. 5, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

At Dan’s request, no services are planned at this time. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston, is in charge of arrangements. In memory of Dan, contribute to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left at

Charles Daniel Ford, son of Judy Lynnette (Miller) and Richard M. Ford, was born May 16, 1963, in Creston.

He grew up on the family farm southwest of Bridgewater.

Dan graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1981.

Dan worked several different jobs before starting at Creston Post Office in 1985. Dan carried mail for many years, before working the night to early morning shift. Most recently, he worked at the customer service window. For many years, he served the local postal union, holding various offices.

On Sept. 23, 1990, Dan married Rochelle “Shelly” DeAnn Willets at the United Methodist Church in Bridgewater. They settled in Creston.

Dan is survived by his parents, Judy and Richard Ford of Bridgewater; brothers, Dean (wife Marilyn) Ford of Odessa, Mo., and Douglas (wife Emily) Ford of Fontanelle; sister Roberta (husband Keith) Carpenter of Bridgewater; nieces, Jessica (husband Norman) Bass of Odessa, Mo., and Megan Ford of Tiffin; nephews, James Ford of Lenexa, Kan., Kenton Ford of Greenfield and Kevin Ford of Des Moines; great-niece Makenna Bass and great-nephew Silas Bass, both of Odessa, Mo.; parents-in-law, Steve and Mary Godsey of Shell Knob, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife in May 2011, grandparents and nephew Tracy Carpenter.
