Donald M. Shawler Creston

Donald Shawler, 94, of Creston died Oct. 4, 2013, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Mary O’Riley will officiate the service. Burial will be after the service in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation with family present will be 1 p.m. to service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Lenox Library. Donald Milton Shawler, son of Clara May (Porter) and Milton Wiard Shawler, was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Lincoln Township of Ringgold County.

He was educated in Lincoln Township Country School in Ringgold County.

On Jan. 12, 1940, Don married Thelma L. Nelson in Creston.

Don lived in many different places including, Ringgold, Taylor, Adams, and Union counties. Don was a farmer; he started working at Wellmans in April of 1966 and retired in 1983.

Thelma died in January 2013.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Patricia (husband Dennis) Iiams and Janice Johnson, all of Ankeny; sons, Martin (wife Joyce) Shawler and Dennis (wife Suzanne) Shawler, all of Creston; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to his wife, Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glen, Gail, Beryl and Bert Shawler; sister Reva Ripperger and son-in-law Vern Johnson.
