CLINTON — The Southwestern volleyball team embarked on its longest conference road trip of the season Wednesday and came back with a 3-0 victory.

The Spartans swept the Cougars 25-12, 25-15, 25-8 to improve to 25-9 overall and maintain third place in ICCAC Division II at 6-2, just in front of Southeastern, which visits SWCC on Tuesday.

Clinton, in the cellar of the 11-team league, fell to 1-8 and 3-14.

Nonetheless, coach Melissa Blessington said the Spartans had to do more than go through the motions in picking up the road victory.

“Clinton has some good blocking on their squad and our team really had to work to hit shots tonight,” Blessington said. “We are still focusing on getting better each match and that requires us to focus on the little things.”

The 25 wins equals last year’s total victory mark for the Spartans.

“We still have a lot to do and this group knows how much work they need to put in,” Blessington said.

The Spartans host Highland Community College of Kansas in a nonconference match tonight at 6:30 p.m.
