No citations were issued after an accident 1:08 p.m. Thursday on Quail Avenue.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Lee D. Oestreichaer, 69, of Massachusetts, driving a 2013 Toyota north on Quail Avenue, decided to turn around. Oestreichaer slowed down, came to a stop and decided to back up into a field drive. He got out and checked to make sure he could back into the drive. Oestreichaer, unfamiliar with the rented vehicle, failed to put the car in park, and when he got out of the vehicle, it rolled forward into the east ditch. David Frank Phillips, 69, of California was a passenger in the vehicle. Phillips was transported to Greater Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where his condition is unknown.

Damage estimate is $2,500 to Oestreichaer’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 2 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 169 and Fifth Street.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Ernest Everett Proctor, 70, of Osceola, driving a 1998 Freightliner tractor/trailer, turned south onto Highway 169 when the trailer came off the hitch of the vehicle and fell apart in the middle of the road. The driver’s side rear tire was damaged, and the trailer was also damaged because of age.

Damage estimate is $200 to Proctor’s tractor, and $7,500 to the trailer.
