Velma Fehrle

Velma Fehrle, 99, of Lenox, formerly of Prescott, died Oct. 17, 2013, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning. The Rev. Ken Rummer will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. Memorials may be directed to Corning First Presbyterian Church or Corning P.E.O. Chapter. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Velma Marie Fehrle, daughter of Crissie (Jones) and Harry Schaffer, was born May 8, 1914, in Prescott.

Velma graduated from Corning High School in 1932 and went on to study at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

On Dec. 18, 1949, Velma married Harry G. Fehrle in Corning.

Velma taught kindergarten students for many years in the Corning School District.

She lived all of her life in Adams County, until moving to Lenox in 2009.

Harry died April 4, 2001.

Velma was a member at First Presbyterian Church in Corning and women’s circle, P.E.O. of Corning and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Velma is survived by her son Phillip Fehrle (friend Amy) of Prescott; grandchildren, Bradley Fehrle of Savannah, Ga., and Timothy Fehrle of Des Moines; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (husband Ernest) Burke of Creston and Ruth Schaffer of Fort Wayne, Ind.

In addition to her husband, Velma was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dean Schaffer, sister-in-law Norma Fehrle; and brothers-in-law, Herman and Carl Fehrle.
