The Southwestern volleyball team avenged an earlier defeat in a dominant 25-7, 25-11, 25-12 sweep of visiting Southeast Nebraska Community College Tuesday night.

Janaya Fox had a team-high 10 kills and served 20-of-20 with an ace as the Spartans improved to 27-9. Molly Schimp had 22 digs, setter Cassidy Yong had 32 assists and Sydney Whitmarsh contributed two blocks.

“Another great win for our team,” said SWCC coach Melissa Blessington. “We were beat by Southeast Nebraska at the beginning of the year in four sets. I challenged them to really work on pushing each other to not let the ball hit the ground and we played great defense. Serena Yong did a great job communicating tonight. Molly Schimp, Janaya Fox and Ashley Strong were all fantastic in the back row. It was a balanced attack in the front row again.”

Shelby Sullivan and Mel Mangrum each had nine kills for Southwestern, which plays tonight at Marshalltown.

Digs — Molly Schimp 22, Cassidy Yong 14, Ashley Strong 13, Janaya Fox 13.
