One hundred and sixty-eight hours later
From Josiah Leibowitz-Mahurin
One hundred and sixty-eight hours, otherwise known as seven days or even simply one week. I wrote last week to report on the heroic rescue of six forlorn felines. If you don’t remember the story, it can be summarized by my mother Cathi Mahurin jumping a fence into a pool of stagnant water to help six kittens who were trapped in a bag to drown.
I do hope whomever threw them into the creek has had the chance to see my story and feel some shred of remorse for their act and a tinge of self hatred for their act of ruthless cruelty, but I digress. Nonetheless, we are now in the possession of sextuplets in wonderful shape and invigorated spirits. I mentioned that my mother runs Cathi’s Pet Penthouse, which is an in-home animal rescue effort. In addition to these wonderful longhaired kittens, we now have three adorable canines up for adoption.
Our first adoptable addition is a year old apple head chihuahua named Piqueto. He is about a year old but does have a bit of a temperament. He is shy and not much of a people person. It will take some personal bonding with a loving owner. He was rescued in Panora, Iowa, along with a ring of cats that were being horded. He is very cute and about the smallest dog you might ever see.
Second, is a min pin chi we call Coco. She is young and very energetic. She will be an easy addition to any home. We don’t know much about where she came from or her past, but she is a wonderful sweetheart.
Third is the one we call Scrappy. He is pug mix and quite a happy little dog. He has some facial damage from his past. It appears he was beaten at one point. Other than cosmetic, he is happy and very healthy.
