Autopsy shows chase suspect was shot twice
AMES (MCT) — Police have released more information about the events that led up to Monday’s deadly shooting on the Iowa State University campus, as an autopsy showed the man died of two gunshot wounds.
An autopsy performed Tuesday showed Tyler Comstock, 19, of Boone, died of two gunshot wounds, one to the head and another to the chest, State Medical Examiner Dr. Julia Goodin said.
She also listed the manner of death as homicide because Comstock died “as a result of the actions of another.” The ruling on the manner of death is not a judgment or ruling on the actions taken by the officer who fired the deadly shots.
Comstock was killed following a chase that began after officers tried to conduct a traffic stop. It ended three minutes later on ISU’s central campus when an Ames police officer fired six rounds into the pickup truck reported stolen minutes earlier.
