Dennis Brown, 69, of Creston died Nov. 14, 2013, at Clearview Home in Clearfield.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. The Rev. Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Celebrate Recovery at Crest Baptist Church. Dennis Dale Brown, son of Dorothy Mae (Turner) and Dale H. Brown, was born May 20, 1944, in Fort Dodge.
Dennis graduated from Gilmore City-Bradgate High School in 1962. He went on to continue his education at Fort Dodge Junior College and later at State College of Iowa graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966.
Dennis taught high school English in eastern Iowa, and later completed his master’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa.
In 1985, Dennis moved to Gilmore City, where he worked as a guidance counselor.
On July 17, 1987, Dennis married Vicki Krumrey in Dayton.
They settled in Creston, where he worked for Green Valley AEA until 1995, when he began working for the Department of Education in Des Moines, until he retired in 2000. He continued teaching classes and workshops on bullying, resilience and emotional intelligence.
Dennis was a member of Crest Baptist Church and Creston Lion’s Club.
Dennis is survived by his wife Vicki of Creston; daughters, Lori (husband Troy) Montgomery of Cedar Rapids, Roxanne (husband Corey) Nikkel of West Des Moines, Amy (husband Kevin) Larick of West Des Moines and Rebecca Steege of North Liberty; son Justin (wife Cynnamon) Brown of Cabot, Ark.; stepdaughter Melissa (husband David) Egli of Fort Dodge, 23 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Daniel Housley, sister Beverly Lowrey and nephew Ron Lowrey.
