Top league blocker Mostek on H-10 second team

Two Creston juniors are part of a widespread youth movement in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball.

In a league that produced a state champion in Harlan (4A) and state runner-up in Kuemper Catholic of Carroll (3A), only seven of the 20 players on the first and second all-conference teams are seniors.

In addition, the league honorees announced after Friday's state tournament includes just four seniors among 12 players receiving honorable mention.

Creston middle hitter Natalie Mostek, the league's leading blocker with 118 total and 103 solo blocks, was named to the second team. She ranked 14th in the league with 189 kills (2.39 per set) while hitting at a .237 efficiency. In addition, she served 93.5 percent with 20 aces and 89 digs as a solid all-around player for the 13-14 Panthers.

Another junior, setter Hanna Luther, received honorable mention. Her 526 set assists ranks sixth in the conference, as well as the 6.7 assists per set. She served 98.1 percent with 20 aces and 40 digs.

The only unanimous first-team selections in a league deep with talent are Harlan junior middle hitter Jess Schaben and Lewis Central's versatile junior Reghan Coyle. She served as both a setter and opposite side hitter for the Titans, who lost to Harlan in a Class 4A regional final.

The only seniors on the first team are the Clarinda duo of Jenny Bair and Darcy Sunderman, St. Albert's Kyle Ferguson and Kuemper's Claire Ludwig.
