Central Nebraska sweeps SWCC

COLUMBUS, Neb. — The Southwestern men couldn’t overcome a poor first half, falling behind 43-19, in an 81-55 loss to Central Nebraska Community College Tuesday night.

Central owned just a 38-36 advantage over the final 20 minutes. The Spartans (4-3) shot only 30 percent (7-of-23) from the field in the opening half, and 3-of-17 from behind the arc in the game.

Central Nebraska shot 10-29 on 3-pointers in the game and 42 percent from the field overall. Central also owned a 49-31 rebounding advantage.

Matt Orchard scored 12 points to lead Southwestern and Larry Mason added 10 points. Tra-Deon Hollins had a dominant game for Central Nebraska with 34 points, 18 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

The Spartans host Southeast Nebraska at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Southwestern women (2-6) also host Southeast Nebraska at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Spartan women lost to Central Nebraska 89-52 Tuesday. Information on that game was not available at press time.
