F. Ellen Peterson Osceola

F. Ellen Peterson, 87, of Osceola died Dec. 1, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.

Services were 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Osceola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julie M. Poore officiated. Interment was in Murray Cemetery. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Frances Ellen Peterson, daughter of Esther Merle (Cole) and John Leslie Stark, was born Feb. 1, 1926, near Grand River.

Ellen received her education in rural country schools in Decatur County.

On Sept. 6, 1944, Ellen married David Milton Peterson in Osceola.

Prior to her marriage, Ellen worked as a nursing assistant in Osceola.

In later years, Ellen worked in a factory in Murray and eventually owned and operated a restaurant in Grand River known as "Ellie's."

Ellen was a past member of American Legion Auxiliary in Grand River and later transferred membership to the American Legion Auxiliary in Osceola.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Mary (Mark) Gibson of Osceola, Janet (Mike) Schlarbaum of Leon, Doris Grose of Brentwood, Calif., Vicki McIntosh (David Smith) of Brentwood, Calif., Merna (Henry) Baker of Mount Ayr and Beverly Peterson of Columbia, Mo.; sisters, Doris Redman of Osceola and Martha Reasoner of Indianola; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, son Rolly Peterson husband; sisters, Oneta Redman, JoAnn Brink, Ruby Stark, Bessie Mason, Margie Akes and Ruth Camp; brothers, Noel, Neil, Clifford, Dale, Edgar, Donald and Merlyn Stark and Roland Stark, in infancy.
