Harold K. Parker Diagonal

Harold “Short” Parker, 82, of Diagonal died Dec. 10, 2013, at Lenox Care Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34, Creston. The Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. A private burial will be at a later date. Visitation with family present will be 1 to 2 p.m. service time Friday at the funeral home. Flag presentation will be conducted by Creston V.F.W. Post 1797. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa or the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Harold Keith Parker, son of Mary Katherine (Olney) and Paul Lawrence Parker, was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Redding.

Harold was educated at Clearfield area country schools.

Harold served in the U.S. Army as an engineer for two years, stationed in France during the Korean Conflict.

On Dec. 3, 1955, Harold married Alice Faye Dudley in Creston. They settled on a farm northwest of Diagonal.

Harold farmed all of his married life. He was a welder at Tote Systems in Lenox and Roscoe Brown of Lenox, where he made machinery. Later, Harold worked at Van Mark, retiring in 1995.

Harold was a former member of the VFW of Lenox and Experimental Aircraft Association.

Harold is survived by his wife Alice Parker of Diagonal; sons, Greg Parker (wife Linda) of Skidmore, Mo., and Doug Parker (wife Marty) of Worth, Mo.; daughters, Tammy (husband Greg) Utterback of Lenox and Sherry (husband Greg Brokaw) Parker of Prescott; brothers, John Parker (wife Marsha) of Council Bluffs and Jerry Parker of Creston; sisters, Mary Alice Hardisty of Texas and Hazel Riedesel of Altoona; sister-in-law Sue Parker of Illinois; grandchildren, Steven (wife Jessica) Fastenow, Jodi (husband Neil) Lang, Lanee (husband Paul) Frank, Chris (wife Tory) Parker, Rosanna (husband Justin) Georgetti, Nici Johnson and Nicholaus Fletchall; step-grandchildren, Catherine (husband Kole) Young and Jennifer Utterback and husband; and eight great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sheila Fletchall in 1984, brother Jim Parker; and sisters, Linda Smith and Ardella Jones.
