Will Fry be removed as Arispe mayor?
Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon recently filed a petition to remove Michael Fry — mayor of Arispe — from his mayoral duties.
Fry allegedly compromised a credit card from Southern Prairie Solid Waste in October. According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, Fry allegedly used the agency’s credit card to purchase gasoline for his personal vehicle four times in September and twice in October. The total improper charges to the agency account is estimated at $330.
“I felt like — given the facts presented to me and my office, I had no other alternative — under Iowa Code — than to file a petition for removal,” Kenyon said.
He was charged with to fourth-degree theft and misconduct of office in October. He resigned from his position of chairman of the Southern Prairie Solid Waste Board shortly after the charges were filed.
However, he did not resign as Arispe mayor — an office he’s held since 2011. Kenyon said he’s currently suspended from his mayoral duties until a hearing slated 9:30 a.m. Dec. 23 at the Union County Courthouse.
That day, a judge will decide if Fry is allowed to serve the remainder of his term as mayor of Arispe.
Arispe City Clerk Randi Cass said this morning Mayor Pro Tem Darcy Johnson will take over mayoral duties for Fry until the December hearing.
